Yokohama, Japan. Yokohama’s overall climate goal is to be net-zero emissions by 2050. One policy to shift resources is through its Virtual Power Plant (VPP) project. In partnership with private corporations, including Toshiba, the City is working to install storage batteries in designated local disaster shelters in schools. It seeks to coordinate usage during peak electricity demand in normal times with remote operation, and to provide an emergency power source to increase resilience to disaster. “Japan spotlight: Yokohama City”. www.climatescorecard.org/2021/06/japan-spotlight-yokohama-city/ Yokohama is a member of the Carbon Neutral Cities Alliance.
